It was Christmas Eve of 2011, and Joshua and I were headed over to my Aunt Michele and Uncle Mike's house for our annual Christmas celebration. A newer tradition that started in my family was to do a yankee swap. I, along with the rest of my family, were completely unaware of the present that Joshua had brought. The whole time, he was trying to convince my mother to open his present, but decided against that. Finally, the last present to be chosen, my Uncle Mike decided to end the game and open the present. He was very surprised to find a framed picture of me, my cousins and my grandma from the previous Christmas with "Can I join your family?" written on it, along with a couple scratch tickets (which he ended up winning $100 on). Joshua, who was sitting next to me on the floor turned to me said some beautiful speech (which I could not recall since I was in such disbelief) and proposed. It took me about 10 minutes to respond while I bawled my eyes and and kept asking if he was serious! And of course I could never say no to my Joshua! |
